Summary of Job Duties: The Assistant Professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages is a 9-month tenure track faculty position. The Assistant Professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages will be expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities: conduct research both individually and in collaboration with other faculty; publish the results of scholarship in refereed journals; obtain external funding to support research and curriculum development endeavors; develop and teach graduate and undergraduate level courses on the Fayetteville campus and online; participate in student advisement and mentoring, including service on graduate student advisory and dissertation committees; engage in community outreach with culturally and linguistically diverse populations; collaborate with P-12 schools such as through offering professional development or programmatic support; and provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
An earned doctorate by August 2024, from a nationally recognized university in English as a Second Language, educational or applied linguistics, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher
education
Demonstrated research interest in culturally responsive pedagogy
Evidence of teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students for at least one year
Evidence of scholarly productivity
Preferred Qualifications:
Scholarly presentations and/or publications in the areas of education, ESL/bilingual/multicultural education, or related disciplinary areas
At least two years of experience in a P-12 US school setting with linguistically diverse students
Experience working in culturally and linguistically diverse settings such as study and/or teaching abroad
Evidence of collaboration with P-12 US educators such as through successful curriculum and/or professional development
Documented evidence of successful teaching at the college/university level
Experience in the development and implementation of online education courses offered by a college/university
Experience working with dual language immersion programs.
Experience in grant writing, managing grants, and/or grant evaluation.
Experience working with international students and communities
