Job Description



The Student Success Specialist develops and implements coaching strategies to help students be academically successful and coordinates the scheduled and group tutoring programs. This is accomplished by meeting with students and creating individualized success plans and implementing student success programs and best practices for campus-wide use. Other duties include:


  • coordinate the scheduled group and supplemental instruction tutoring programs

  • assist students with study skill strategies; referring students to relevant College resources as needed

  • provide campus-wide leadership on student success best practices

  • advises at risk populations on student success strategies tutors students directly in areas of expertise

  • monitor and analyze student progress

  • serve as a liaison to all academic divisions to develop academic support resources, learning initiatives, and teaching methods to facilitate student success

  • assist in managing daily operations and activities of the Learning Center

  • communicates tutoring staff schedules to tutors, faculty, and staff; coordinating, implementing, and assessing customer service initiatives

  • develop online tutoring initiative utilizing web technology

  • organize and coordinates tutor training

  • ensure tutoring training and services are compliant with guidelines, and creating and maintaining manuals and procedures and proposing modifications as needed

  • serving on campus committees and participating in affinity groups

This is an exempt, professional staff position and includes a comprehensive benefits package offering medical, dental and vision coverage; generous paid time off; tuition assistance; and retirement savings. This position will require work performed regularly on campus.



Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education



Bachelor's degree required

Required Experience



At least one year of work experience in a related field required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



Knowledge of student development theory and intermediate MS Office skills.



Preferred Qualifications



At least one year experience working at a College Tutoring/Learning center coordinating tutoring and academic support initiatives.

Hours per Week 40 - 100%
