Hours: 7.5 Hours per Day, 199 Days per Year



JOB DESCRIPTION



The paraeducator in this position will coordinate processes to identify high school students who are deficient in credits toward a four-year high school diploma; will assist the counseling department in tracking and monitoring student progress toward on-time graduation; is responsible to assist in the development and coordination of intervention plans with teachers and parents.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT



  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.

  • Must attach unofficial transcript proving bachelor's degree to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.

  • Spanish bilingual skills required - must pass STAMP assessment.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED



  • Two years related experience working in a school or community based setting.

  • Required academic skills to assist students (i.e. knowledge in sciences, language arts, math, reading and social studies).

  • Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word and ability to quickly assimilate District software programs, such as PowerSchool.

  • Ability to develop and use spreadsheets to track students and data.

  • Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.

  • Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

  • Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.

  • Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.

  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.

  • Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.

  • Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.

  • Must be willing to become first-aid certified if required.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Help coordinate a process of identifying and assessing students who may need guidance and support in attaining on time graduation

  • Coordinate tutoring for after school tutoring and lunch time tutoring.

  • Track and contact seniors who do not graduate on time and facilitate enrollment into summer programs and classes for the following school year.

  • Contact underclassmen who have one or more ?F? grades and facilitate enrollment in credit retrieval and/or summer school programs

  • Track and contact students who have left school and appear to be dropouts and confirm their status. Initiate changing the codes appropriately (i.e. from dropout to transfer out of district).

  • Serve as the liaison in organizing the communication between students, administrators, counselors, teachers and parents for the purpose of creating and monitoring of student graduation plans and student progress toward meeting standard on state assessments; work collaboratively with existing school teams and committees.

  • Help ensure a family-friendly atmosphere at the site, which includes taking into consideration the multi-cultural needs of the school and community.

  • Utilize various means of communication to perform the duties of the job.

  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor pertaining to job classification.

  • Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
