The Senior Course Design Quality Reviewer will be a member of the Instructional Design and Development (IDD) unit at Excelsior University. Our team works closely with subject matter experts and other community and university stakeholders to develop transformative, engaging, high-quality learning experiences for our students.

As a Senior Course Design Quality Reviewer, you will report to the Director of Quality Assurance and work to uphold regulatory requirements, Quality Matters standards, and our university's course design tenets and quality standards. Your role will involve quality course reviews, compliance assurance, research, and innovative projects aimed at advancing the field of course design and online learning. Additionally, this role will entail providing mentorship to junior team members, guiding them in the adoption of best practices in quality course design. This position is based out of the university?s home office in Albany, NY with the option of considering remote candidates. Remote employees will have mandatory occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and professional development opportunities. Remote employees are expected to be available during work hours 8:30am ? 5:00pm Eastern time. The University will supply necessary equipment to perform the essential functions of this job (e.g., laptop, docking station). Employees are responsible for having a workspace where they can participate in virtual meetings without multiple interruptions and noise.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Exemplify Regulatory and Quality Adherence: Collaborate closely with the Director of Quality Assurance to meticulously ensure strict compliance with all regulatory and quality standards relevant to program and course development. This includes but is not limited to, federal regulations governing online teaching, rigorous accreditation requirements, university policies, and the exacting Quality Matters standards.
  • Subject Matter Advisory: Take on an advisory role within the team, offering expert guidance and solutions to fellow team members when they encounter compliance-related challenges or complexities.
  • Continuous Regulatory Vigilance: Maintain a steadfast commitment to staying up-to-date with evolving regulatory requirements in the realm of academic program development within higher education, demonstrating a proactive approach to compliance.
  • Innovation Promotion: Actively seek out and identify innovative practices and methodologies that have the potential to substantially enhance the quality of our programs, elevating them to the pinnacle of excellence.
  • Stringent Course Evaluation: Execute meticulous evaluations of courses, employing rigorous scrutiny to ensure they meticulously align with the University's exacting standards for course design and the comprehensive Quality Matters 7th Edition Rubric.
  • Resourceful Training Material Development: Create comprehensive and informative training and reference materials focused on quality standards and compliance. These materials should serve as valuable resources for both faculty and staff.
  • Unyielding Copyright and Accessibility Compliance: Demonstrate an uncompromising commitment to ensuring compliance with copyright and accessibility laws, as well as the core tenets of the University's courses, and consistently meet the rigorous criteria set forth by the Quality Matters Rubric in all our educational offerings.
  • Internal Quality Assurance Audits: Conduct in-depth and systematic internal audits to validate that all programs and courses meet the exacting quality standards mandated by the University.
  • Streamlined Quality Assurance Processes: Collaborate proactively with IDD team members and university stakeholders to develop and implement streamlined processes that facilitate comprehensive quality checks throughout the entirety of the program development and maintenance cycle, with a particular emphasis on efficiency and precision.
  • Consultative Excellence: Engage in consultative interactions with faculty and subject matter experts, consistently offering guidance rooted in best practices to ensure the creation of exceptionally high-quality learning experiences for our students.
  • Advocacy for Quality Standards: Act as a passionate advocate for the adoption of quality standards and the infusion of innovative pedagogical strategies that not only promote student learning but also significantly expand student choice and access to educational opportunities.
  • Project Quality Stewardship: Provide support for projects, starting from the planning phase and extending through to their successful completion, always with a focus on maintaining and enhancing their overall quality.
  • Comprehensive Task Execution: Execute any other duties, as assigned or required, with the same level of rigor, attention to detail, and dedication to quality that is expected in all aspects of this role.
Qualifications:

  • Education: Possession of a master's degree in instructional design, higher education, information technology, or a closely related field that demonstrates a profound understanding of the intricacies of educational design in a post-secondary context.
  • Design Proficiency: Demonstrated knowledge of design principles, user interfaces, web standards, and usability guidelines, showcasing the ability to integrate these concepts seamlessly into course development.
  • Legal Acumen: A comprehensive working knowledge of copyright laws, accrediting agencies, SARA, CHLOE, and other reports that support the upholding of intellectual property rights, legal compliance, and best practices in creating and distributing educational materials.
  • Quality Matters Expertise: Quality Matters certification with 5-10 years of experience using the QM Rubric to review the quality of higher education courses.
  • Attention to Detail: An impeccable track record of maintaining excellent attention to detail, underlining a commitment to precision and accuracy in all aspects of course design and evaluation.
  • Interpersonal Relationships: Demonstrated prowess in building strong and lasting professional relationships, fostering collaboration, trust, and effective teamwork across diverse stakeholders. Additionally, experience advising and mentoring colleagues and faculty in online course design best practices.
  • Project Management Mastery: The ability to expertly manage multiple, complex projects concurrently, exhibiting an exceptional capacity for organization, prioritization, and time management.
  • Tech Savviness: A proven aptitude for swiftly learning and adapting to emerging tools and technologies within the ever-evolving field of instructional design.
  • Accessibility and Inclusivity Proficiency: A deep familiarity with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and accessible technology guidelines, particularly exemplified by an understanding of WCAG 2.1 standards and their integration into course materials.
  • Collaborative Leadership: A demonstrated ability to lead and manage projects that involve diverse individuals, regardless of their geographic location, emphasizing inclusive and effective collaboration.
  • Analytical Prowess: A strong analytical mindset, accompanied by advanced organizational and project management skills, enabling the effective evaluation and enhancement of course quality.

The hiring salary range for this position is $55,000.00 - $65,000.00. The hiring salary range above represents the University's good faith estimate at the time of posting.
