Job description: 1. Minimum of either: 1) Associate?s Degree; 2) Sixty (60) semester hour college credits; and/or 3)
Passing grade on the ParaPro Praxis Test.
2. Must satisfy all minimum Highly Qualified Paraprofessional standards.
3. Must be physically able to assist students with motor skills and other tasks.
4. Prior experience working with children as a volunteer, instructional aide or other paid employment
desirable.
REPORTS TO:
Depending upon the assignment, a paraprofessional may be supervised by any of the following: School
Administrator, Transportation Supervisor, Special Education Supervisor, and/or the Director of Special
Services.
JOB GOAL: To provide instructional and technical assistance to meet the needs of all students. Assist the
classroom teacher in ensuring the smooth running of the classroom.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Under the supervision of a certificated teacher and/or other certificated staff, the paraprofessional may
assist in and reinforce student instruction, behavior, development of language skills, social skills and
resource skills of identified students. The paraprofessional may perform a wide variety of routine
clerical, technical and instructionally related tasks and other related duties as required.
2. Ability and willingness to assist with the development of student social skills, self-discipline and
survival techniques based on individual needs.
3. Exhibits good use of the English language.
4. Understands and follows written and verbal school administrator and/or teacher directions.
5. Learns and performs basic clerical functions, including using the computer.
6. Communicates effectively with students and/or adults.
7. Establishes rapport with students and maintains their collectivity and calmness in other than normal
situations.
8. Establishes and maintains effective and cooperative working relationships with children and adults.
9. Applies common sense and good judgment.
10. Acts responsibly in emergency situations to assist students.
11. Maintains confidentiality.
12. Provides instructional support services under the direct supervision of a highly qualified teacher.
13. Provides one-to-one tutoring if such tutoring is scheduled at a time when students would not otherwise
receive instruction from a teacher.
14. Assists with classroom management, such as organizing instructional and other materials
15. Provides instructional assistance

16. Provides support in a library, media center, or computer laboratory.
17. Assists in reinforcement of small group and/ro individual instruction.
18. Assists students with making mathematical computations that may require several processes.
19. Assists students prior to, during, and immediately after district transportation.
20. Under the supervision and direction of certificated staff, copies, assembles and/or hands out
instructional materials.
21. Assists with administering and correcting tests under the direction of the teacher.
22. Attends workshops ndd/or in-service training provided by the assigned department.
23. Escorts students to restrooms and provides assistance when necessary. Depending on assignment
diapering and direct facilitation of toileting may be required.
24. Assists students on the playground.
25. Assists students during activities which take place outside the classroom.
26. Accompanies the certificated teacher and/or administrator in student related extracurricular activities.
27. Witnesses the actions of students and provides input regarding their behavior to certificated personnel.
28. Communicates to and works with the Child Study Teams.
29. Provides assistance with multimedia equipment/programs.
30. Provides minor clerical assistance to certificated personnel.
31. Operates duplicating and other office equipment.
32. Accepts overnight assignments as directed.
33. Performs other related duties as required.
34. Reads student Individualized Educational Programs and related documents and implements
requirements of the same under the direction of the certificated staff.
35. Maintains confidentiality of students and related family information.
36. Depending upon assignment, a paraprofessional may be assigned to any of the following locations:
Preschool, Elementary, Middle or High School regular education classrooms; Basic Skills Instruction
Program; Special Education Program; School Transportation; and /or Library/Media in Junior
High/Middle Schools.
37. Depending upon assignment and educational background, the paraprofessional may be assigned as a
Paraprofessional Aide (Non-Instructional Paraprofessional) or Instructional Paraprofessional.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education. This position is part of the Wayne
Paraprofessional Association.
ANNUAL EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board?s policy on the
evaluation of non-certificated staff.

4. Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or
operation of equipment
5. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times
