Job description: SUMMARY: Supports Individual Healthcare Plans and Individual Education Plans within the assigned special education classroom(s).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following:
  • Follows directions from the Classroom Teacher, Building School Nurse, and Building Administration.
  • Follows the work calendar and pay/benefits schedule as outlined in the NWCS Support Staff Benefits Manual.
  • Follows all district policies and procedures, including the administering of medication.
  • Maintains confidentiality applicable by district(s) policy and applicable law, including the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Follows servicing school?s safety procedures and emergency preparedness plans.
  • Provides medical services and medical interventions for the assigned student(s) with minimal disruption to the educational setting of the assigned classroom.
  • Provides instructional support for the assigned classroom.
  • Assists in documenting relevant information for daily communication logs as assigned by the Classroom Teacher and/or School Nurse.
  • Supports the Classroom Teacher and other Classroom Assistants in the use of assisted technology and equipment.
  • Performs such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Current and valid certification as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other medical certifications is required dependent on the needs of the students. Prior experience with children or experience within a school setting is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to present information to and communicate in a positive manner with students, administrators, faculty, parents, and members of the community.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables when only limited standardization exists. Ability to use equipment and work aids associated with this type of work.

OTHER SKILLS:
Ability to utilize technology appropriate to the functions of this job.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth percep­tion, and the ability to adjust focus.

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
