Job description: Under the general direction of the Communications Director or designee, performs assigned public information functions within the Claremore Public School District, and supports Communications Office Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented. * Shares responsibility for maintaining, monitoring, and publishing content for all District social media accounts.
- Gather information to assist Communications Office in preparing communications releases.
- Assists Communications Office in daily communications with media to promote school and District activities.
- Assists with Communications-related needs of District employees, media, agencies, and the public.
- Writes, drafts, and edits, as assigned.
- Assists in responding to public and staff requests for information; maintains records.
- Assists Communications Office in preparing public relations/marketing materials.
- Assists Communications Office in planning and implementing special events when needed.
- Assists Communications Office with projects and routine assignments, as needed.
- Assists Communications Office in planning and executing news conferences and other media events.
- Maintains/updates fact sheets and other information about District departments, divisions, and programs.
- Researches background information for publications, materials, and projects; assists Communications Office in presenting information.
- Conforms to safety standards, as prescribed.
- Performs other tasks related to the position, as assigned.
- Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Ability to apply expert verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to apply strong analytical, critical thinking, and judgment skills.
- Ability to recognize sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to accurately interpret and apply written/verbal instructions.

- Bilingual, Spanish speaking is a plus.
- Physical Demand: Frequent sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities.
- Hearing and Speech: Communicate in person, via video conference and computers, or over the telephone. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for an extended period of time.
- Vision: Frequent near acuity, occasional far acuity, and color vision. Vision to read printed and online materials, a Video Display Terminal (VDT) screen, or other monitoring devices.
- Environmental Conditions: Climate-controlled office settings with temperatures ranging from mild to moderate cold/heat. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud for occasional to frequent time periods.
- Hazards: Frequent electrical shock hazards, furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals and fumes (as related to specific assignment), and power/hand-operated equipment and machinery (as related to specific assignment.)
