Job Description:
Sacred Heart University is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our institution as the Associate Provost for Academic Programs. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness, the Associate Provost will play a crucial role in managing the development, implementation, and enhancement of our undergraduate, graduate and online education programs. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in higher education administration, with expertise in graduate education and online learning. This position requires strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills to promote excellence and innovation in undergraduate, graduate and online education.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategic and Action Planning: Collaborate with college leadership and academic departments to support the development and implementation of strategic and action plans for undergraduate, graduate and online education that align with the institution's overall goals and objectives. Identify opportunities for program growth, enhancement, and innovation.
- Program Development and Enhancement: manage the processes for the development and enhancement of high-quality academic programs across various disciplines. Collaborate with academic departments and faculty to ensure the alignment of programs with industry needs and student demand.
- Online Learning Management: Manage the development and maintenance of online learning platforms and technologies in close collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning and Information Technology. Serve as University's designated liaison with our OPM, Wiley.
- Manage the SHU Online (SHUOL)-Wiley partnership: Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop budgets and enrollment goals; Manage SHUOL processes and procedures with Student Financial Aid and receivables; Manage the SHUOL legacy programs and prioritize the development and roll out of the new programs in priority order; Manage the expectations and timelines of the rollout of the new programs to ensure a smooth transition. Continue to work with Wiley to research the next best program(s) to launch; Manage the effective delivery of online courses and programs, ensuring coordination among instructional design, faculty support and development, student engagement, and assessment efforts.
- Quality Assurance: Collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning, Deans' Offices, and colleagues within the Provost's Office to establish and maintain quality assurance standards and processes for undergraduate, graduate and online programs. Under the direction of the Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and in collaboration with the colleges, coordinate Academic Program Review and assessment activities.
- Enrollment Management: Collaborate with the deans, academic programs, colleagues in the Provost's Office, and SHU's enrollment management and marketing teams to develop, support and/or implement strategies to enhance recruitment and retention. Analyze market trends and competition to identify opportunities for growth and differentiation.
- Collaboration and Partnerships: Support university efforts to foster collaborations and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including higher education institutions, academic departments, industry partners, etc.
Requirements:
Some evening and weekend hours may be necessary.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS NEEDED:
- A doctoral degree or equivalent terminal degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education administration, with a focus on academic programs (undergraduate, graduate, and online education).
- Demonstrated expertise in program development, curriculum design, and assessment.
- Strong understanding of online learning technologies, instructional design principles, and emerging trends in online education.
- Ability to synthesize disparate sources of information into concise summaries which highlight key points. Draw conclusions based on available information, make recommendations, and suggest plans for a course of action.
- Familiarity with regional and programmatic accreditation standards and processes.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience in budget management and resource allocation.
- Track record of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
