Job description: The Dean of Students oversees student?s overall personal success at ISLA. This person assists in building a social emotional environment that is conducive to learning for a neurodiverse group of learners with respect to all cultural backgrounds. The Dean of Students will work collaboratively with the Executive Director, teachers, students, parents, and the Board of Directors to help ISLA fulfill its mission and vision, while also fulfilling its commitments to Spanish immersion and International Baccalaureate. Lastly, the person is responsible for developing a caring school climate and being a champion for ISLA.

Responsibilities include:
Provide evidence-based education, behavior & mental health services
Promote the general well-being of students
Work with outside agencies to provide referrals and coordinate services for students and families
Provide classroom support and training for teachers and other school personnel regarding evidenced based behavior and mental health interventions.
504 case management including coordinating evaluations, determining eligibility, plan development, planning interventions, & managing timelines
Develop and provide risk management prevention and response that include trauma informed interventions for high risk students to improve student success
Provide professional development and consultation for staff and teachers regarding equity, violence prevention, mental health, trauma, restorative practices and positive behavior supports including Responsive Classroom.
Identify and eliminate barriers to educational success while working to maximize coping skills for students to succeed.
Participate in the development of a culturally responsive curriculum with particular emphasis on creating effective social-emotional supports by developing partnerships with classroom teachers and educational assistants.
Participate in various committees including Comunidad Responsable, SAT, and the Board of Directors Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.
Monitor and report data and statistics regarding retention, attrition and disciplinary actions for students
Familiarity with state and federal regulations that support students
Conduct teacher observations and provide feedback to classroom teachers.
Support and enforce the school attendance and truancy policy
Assist in workshop week planning and leading
Support before and after school program with social emotional learning and incident debriefing
Lunch /recess supervision coordinator
Provide support to students, staff and families with regards to bus transportation to and from school to ensure students that ride the bus arrive to school safely and on time. This includes responding to behavior incidents that occur on the bus and planning proactive interventions to bus issues
Recruit and supervise MSW interns
Comply with applicable HIPPA and FERPA laws
File all behavioral reports at year end with MDE
Maintain records with regard to student behavior
Communicate with guardians and provide student support regarding any behavior incidents that escalate to an administrative level
Keep a log of all behavioral interventions and submit with the yearly ADSIS report
Other duties as assigned by the Director (i.e. help with scheduling substitutes, substituting in classrooms if needed, assist with coordination of mandatory school drills)
Preferred Qualifications:
Master?s Degree in Social Work from an accredited university.
Current Licensure or ability to obtain licensure within 18 months as an LISW or LICSW with the MN Board of Social Work.
Licensed as a Tier 3 or 4 School Social Worker with the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB)
Familiarity with Minnesota State Standards
Strong knowledge of research and best practice in neuro inclusive education
Ability to work independently and coordinate personal schedule
Strong communication skills in English and Spanish.
Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
