Job description: Job Summary

Under the leadership of the Graduate Center Director, the coordinator advises individuals seeking a post-baccalaureate degree and supports graduate programming. The coordinator positively engages and impacts potential and currently enrolled post-baccalaureate students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advising to current and potential CSULB graduate students, including assisting them with issues related to their education, and advising them of other campus services and resources.
  • Publicize, organize, and facilitate the Graduate Center's events (e.g., workshops, conferences, receptions) and services by diverse means, including website maintenance, creation of flyers and brochures, and use of social media.
  • Support Graduate Center Director with coordinating the Grad Mentor program.
  • Support with data collection including post-advising appointment and post-workshop surveys.
  • Coordinate and conduct outreach at on- and off-campus events.
  • Review and edit thesis and dissertation submissions for formatting.
  • Support the Graduate Center Director as needed in all aspects of the daily running of the Graduate Center.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Demonstrate commitment to serving diverse student populations with understanding of the unique needs of under-served groups. Strong writing and editing skills. Social media skills and experience.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited university.

Experience working in higher education.

Experience with teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or advising students.

Experience with organizing events.

Experience in designing and creating flyers, brochures, and posters.

Physical Summary

Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,610 - $6,556 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
