Eligibility Requirements
 U.S. citizenship, national, or lawful permanent residency
 Ability to pass FBI, CA Department of Justice, out-of-state (if applicable), and National Sex Offender Public Registry background checks
 At least 18 years of age
 Negative tuberculosis test (if working with minors)
 Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination or testing requirements
 Residency in California
 Commitment to the full term of service
 Capability to work in both office and field settings
 Strong verbal and written communication skills
 Teamwork and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
 Passion for community-driven climate solutions and interest in a career in sustainability
 Experience or training in climate science, sustainability, environmental justice, education, community outreach, or project management
 Previous service experience (e.g., volunteering)
 Associates degree or higher, or relevant experience
 Local to the community served
Desired Qualifications
 Ability and enthusiasm for outdoor manual labor, including tasks such as lifting, gardening, and light carpentry
 Experience leading classes of K-12 students and hands-on garden-based activities
 Enjoyment of working with volunteers from diverse backgrounds
 Experience working with schools, non-profits, or low-income communities
 Willingness to work weekends
 Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license with proof of insurance
 Positive, collaborative attitude with a passion for urban agriculture, equity, and sustainability
 Experience in climate communications, curriculum development, environmental education, and volunteer management
 Proficiency in Spanish is a plus
Responsibilities
 Direct Curriculum Delivery & School-Based Learning (60%):
 Lead students in food systems, environmental justice, and public health/nutrition through the Food Explorers Program
 Guide student groups in garden-related activities
 Develop educational materials to support program goals
 Sustainable Food-Based Garden Development & Management (20%):
 Maintain and improve garden sites, including weeding, planting, and harvesting
 Document garden progress and community engagement
 Collaborate on seasonal planting and manage seedling inventories
 Community Building & Volunteer Management (10%):
 Lead monthly volunteer workdays at assigned sites
 Program Development & Evaluation (10%):
 Collaborate with site administrators and staff to align garden activities with shared goals
 Manage data collection to assess program impact
Work Schedule
Typical schedule is Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm (including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break). Occasional evening and Sunday work may be required for special events.
