Based in South Carolina, The Watering Hole is a young poetry nonprofit (since 2013) that builds poetry education resources. Our goal is to equalize inequalities related to literary arts education and resources, with a particular focus on Southern writers and readers of color. We are a small office of remote-working volunteers, in the process of developing our core team of paid... employees.
This position is one in which the hired candidate would play a key role in shaping. It is perfect for someone who enjoys building a vision from the ground up and executing it, who naturally thrives in creative-thinking and problem-solving environments, who has a knack for logistical framing, and who understands that small organizations require excellence and timely completion of tasks.

Primary Function:
The Programs and Capacity Assistant position is part-time contractual work, but expected to expand to a full-time position with proven success. This position will work directly with the Executive Director to take on key program and capacity building support roles, which includes
Developing and executing a communications strategy
 Regular newsletters
 Website updates and online platform updates
 Donor communications
 Updates to our program participants
 Mailings
 Monthly reports to stakeholders
 Misc. capacity communications
Off-Boarding Administrative Tasks from the ED
 Logistical support for programs
 Attending key training
 Implementing strategic plan elements
 Misc. capacity support
Salary & Schedule:
$24,000 per year
The time commitment needed will depend on the pace at which you work and upcoming deadlines. We expect it to average 5 to 20 hours per week.
Term:
With satisfactory performance in this position, this role will continue through at least June 2026, with possibility of extension.
Experience:
 At least 3 years of experience in programming, office management, as an assistant or in a related position. (Required)
 At least 1 year of Non-profit experience (Preferred)

 Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects, define necessary tasks, and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
 Highly organized and exceptional attention to details.
 Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines; must be able to analyze and prioritize tasks.
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills
 Adaptable, flexible, and enjoys doing work that requires frequent shifts in direction
 Excellent computer and internet fluency, including ability expertise with Google Drive, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other electronic support systems.
 Strong commitment to TWHÂs mission.
 Ability to maintain the utmost confidentiality and ethical standards
 Comfortable and knowledgeable in and among communities of color
 Ability to pass a criminal background check and child abuse/neglect registry check.

Physical Requirements (for occasional in-person events):
 Can be stationary for prolonged periods, can walk / move about, and is able to stand for prolonged periods.
 Role may also require physical labor (stooping, kneeling, and crawling) in addition to lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs
