JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:
The Coding Senior provides one on one and departmental direction, monitors performance standards and the daily workflow of the Emergency Medicine Coding Department to ensure corporate goals and standards are met. Also, ensures quality coding consistent with ICD-9, ICD-10, corporate and governmental guidelines, rules and regulations. The Coding Senior provides coding and documentation feedback to appropriate leaders within the Alcoa Billing Center and TeamHealth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Along with Supervisor, manages staff and procedures ensuring systems operate efficiently and effective personnel relations are maintained  Participate in hiring and interview process, making recommendations for employment  Provide daily guidance to coders to include answering questions, reviewing and requesting new codes, resolving balancing issues, assuring month-end close is met  Monitor performance- production and QA  Administers counseling as needed  Provide feedback and assist with employee evaluations  Disseminate timely coding and documentation communications to staff  Develop and maintain policies and procedures  Coordinate the resolution of coding and documentation issues among departments.  Complete special projects/reports as requested by the Director of Billing Production
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
 High school diploma or equivalent required. College course work preferred in a health care related field. Additional training in coding and medical documentation required.
 Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, regulatory requirements and physician billing;
 Proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10 coding and CPT procedural coding;
 CPC or CCS-p certification preferred;
 Minimum two (2) years medical coding experience, emergency medicine preferred;
 Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skill;
 Ability to lead and direct.

This position may require manual dexterity and/or frequent use of the computer, telephone, 10-key, calculator, office machines (copier, scanner, fax) and/or the ability to perform repetitive motions and/or meet production standards to comply with the essential functions. Also, may require physical and/or mental stamina to work additional hours beyond a regular schedule and/or more than five days per week.
