Posted 2025-04-06Job Description Summary Develops complex analytical and statistical models and methodologies to predict, classify, quantify, and/or forecast business metrics that help customers make sound business decisions. Designs and manages studies as requested by internal and external clients for purposes of ensuring accreditation, improving health, and analyzing business opportunities and areas for improvement. Assures quality and integrity of data collected, analysis performed, and reports generated. Develops methods for improving internal techniques and processes. Focuses on providing thought leadership and technical expertise across multiple disciplines. Role Summary As a member of the Evernorth Research Institute (ERI) Data Science (DS), DS Advisor is responsible for being a high-level technical contributor in enabling artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) within Evernorth Health Services. The ideal candidate needs to demonstrate aptitude in data science applications to client and member solutions while leading revenue and margin-generating opportunities. This role is responsible for developing advanced solutions and embedding AI/ML in decision-making and internal decision engines. In addition, a successful candidate is expected to provide thought leadership in various projects and think strategically about technological capabilities as they relate to existing and new data assets, cloud and on-prem compute platforms. The candidate will demonstrate technical prowess to drive projects from inception to delivery by working with senior leaders and business partners (Member Experience, Technology (IT), Clinical). Key Responsibilities Support high-value enterprise initiatives by working with internal stakeholders and understanding business needs. Identify new opportunities to reduce operating expenses (OP-EX) and grow revenue. Employ model life cycle best practices (develop, test, document, productionalize) that enable positive ROI, consistency, reproducibility, and model governance Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with technical and business matrix partners (Data Engineering Technical Product Owners, Business Product Owners, ML Center of Enablement, etc.) Support advanced analytical and Data Science efforts in Natural Language Processing, Generative AI and predictive modeling which could include but not limited to feature clustering, segmentation, logistic or multivariate regressions, decision trees, artificial neural networks, time-series analysis, hierarchical forecasting, generative AI transformer architecture Visualize, interpret, report, and communicate data findings creatively to non-technical and technical audiences using Tableau, ggplot, seaborn, plotly, bokeh, altair, holoviews Think creatively and act as a subject matter expert (SME), collaborate with other Data Science team members via established development programs Qualifications Degree in Data Science, Applied/Health/Quant Economics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Compute Science, Operations Research, or related quantitative discipline (BachelorÂs required, MasterÂs or PhDÂs preferred) 1+ years of relevant experience for PhD and 3+ years of experience for Masters graduates Experience with time-series modeling/forecasting and deployment of highly scalable forecast hierarchies with Stats / ML / Neural / Hierarchical forecasts and using multi-step reconciliation strategies Proficiency in ML, statistics and data science fundamentals. Understanding or prior experience of healthcare data preferred but not required (e.g., prescription/medical claims, Electronic Health Records, disease indicators, ICD10 codes, etc.) Thorough understanding of ML lifecycle, including necessary tradeoffs and associated risks Expertise in python, pySpark, R, SQL, version control (e.g., Git), on-prem Linux-based computing, python notebooks and cluster mounting in cloud computing (AWS, Domino Labs, Databricks) Adherence to best coding practices and fostering a culture of documentation and logging Exceptional ability to communicate and present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills Scope of Job As the Data Science Advisor for NLP/AI practice management, this candidate will be a high-level individual contributor to the team ensuring the ERI Data Science team stays on top of the latest methodologies and trends in quantitative approaches to ML/AI algorithm deployment. Additionally, this candidate will support the Data Science team in developing and deploying new predictive models or utilizing existing models to solve business problems. They will utilize ML and AI embeddings to improve client, customer, internal partners experience within modern healthcare, create opportunities for additional revenue or OP-EX, and simplify individual plan benefit journeys for our members and patients. This role will provide opportunities to engage with multiple business units across Cigna Group.
