POSITION: Property Accounting Controller
COMPENSATION: Pursuant to applicable regulations, if this job is performed in a relevant State, the salary range is $125,000-$150,000 plus bonus potential. ?Eligible to participate in the . DIRECT REPORT: VP, Accounting
SUMMARY: The Controller serves as the leader of our Property Accounting division, overseeing Accounting Managers and their respective teams. This role holds direct accountability for ensuring the excellence and accuracy of team deliverables, while also ensuring clients are satisfied from an accounting standpoint. To excel in this role, the individual will need robust accounting and communication abilities, presentation skills, and experience managing large, remote teams. A proven record of cross-functional collaboration to achieve outcomes, and the ability to manage relationships with key clients are highly desired. Strong preference for a thought partner who has built teams, systems and processes.
RESPONSIBILITIES (Including but not limited to):
 Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and legal requirements related to property accounting. Stay updated on industry-specific regulations and changes in accounting standards that may impact property accounting practices.
 Internal Controls: Establish and maintain strong internal controls related to property accounting processes. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of controls, identify and mitigate risks, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
 Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of property accountants, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment, promoting professional growth and engagement within the team.
 Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, operations, and external auditors, to ensure effective coordination and alignment of property accounting activities. Provide expertise and insights on property accounting matters to support strategic initiatives and decision-making.
 Systems and Technology: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in property accounting software and systems. Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems to streamline processes and improve data integrity and reporting capabilities.
 Client Service: Timely and professional ongoing correspondence, representing the company during new client engagements, as well as representing the company's accounting team during client discussions.
QUALIFICATIONS:  10+ years of property accounting experience required, with a preference for those with student housing experience; property management experience a plus  Demonstrated success in a managerial role  Great organizational and learning skills, with the ability to manage a wide range of deadlines  Empathetic communicator; both verbal and written  High degree of accuracy and attention to detail  Demonstrated planning and organization skills  Strong client focus  Strong working knowledge of property management software, experience with Entrata, Yardi, RealPage ERP software preferred
