Your Role:
The Specialty/Commercial Auto Physical Damage Desk Appraiser role is a virtual employee who works with significant authority over physical damage assignments of high complexity and of commercial and/or special lines vehicle-type. Incumbent handles multiple cases and claims from first notification through estimating and file closure. This role serves as an expert in all aspects of commercial non-injury related matters including total loss. Incumbent independently evaluates, negotiates, and settles physical damage and total loss claims along with other suffixes (i.e., loss of use, property damage), which includes evaluation and estimating mechanics.
Your work:
 Investigates, evaluates, negotiates, and settles Commercial and physical damage claims.
 Opens claims and obtains required information from insured, claimant, and other involved parties
 Confirms loss details and applicable policy coverage.
 Takes directed first notice of loss on claims in an effort to expedite resolution
 Accurately resolves estimates, ranging from general vehicle to commercial-based vehicles, based on visible damage and supporting documentation.
 Evaluates subrogation demands from adverse carrier.
 Handles pay out to third-party carrier.
 Applies knowledge of estimating standards ranging from minor to high complexity, including commercial and special lines (RVs, MC, Boats, Etc.).
 Handles assignments within authority level requiring independent judgement and negotiations.
 Evaluates repair costs compared to vehicle market value to determine reparability versus total loss.
 Writes original estimates from photographs.
 Prepares repair estimate using expertise, discretion, and judgment for most economical resolution.
 Reviews and negotiates estimates with repair facilities for reasonableness.
 Within settlement authority, employs discretion to approve repairs in alignment with company standard operating procedures.
 Supports subrogation and salvage activities for Commercial, and Personal Lines on non-disputed liability claims
 Explains policy language, provides coverage information, and advises insured as to proper course of action (follow-up, status calls, touch base with the customer).
 Investigates, recognizes higher exposures, and assigns claims obtains a review and authority to resolve those claims.
 Follows timeliness guidelines within standard operating procedures to adjust and conclude claims by issuing payment or reviewing complex repairs with next level appraiser.
 Negotiates settlement of claim with insured, third party and attorneys
 Processes payments appropriately and reviews with supervision beyond authority
 Prepares file for authority review with supervisor or manager
 Reviews and processes supplement(s) to the repair estimate supported by required documentation and has discretion to reject non-related supplements.
Required Experience, Education and Skills
 High School (HS)/GED plus 3 years customer service experience in a virtual environment leveraging internet, phone, and chat features in the insurance industry
 3+ years of claims experience
 2+ year physical damage and total loss experience
 Must hold an Adjuster licensed for all applicable states or obtain license(s) within 90 days of filling position as a condition of employment
 Ability to rate condition, run evaluation and to conclude total losses
 Knowledge of auto repair estimates and systems
 Possesses demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of successful progression through job family levels, inclusive of auto-body repair practices and procedures for general auto, commercial, and special lines exposures.
 Strong and effective negotiation skills
 Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
 Basic math and computer skills along with the technical aptitude to utilize a variety of software applications
 Strong oral and written communication skills
 Ability to work in a flexible, changing environment
 Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and goal-oriented
 Knowledge of auto repair estimates and systems
 Basic math and computer skills with technical ability to utilize a variety of software applications, including Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
 Proficient in utilizing estimating software and systems
 Ability to train back-up staff
 Ability to build and maintain a nation-wide shop/vendor date base
 Ability to interpret policy language and resolve claims coverage questions (CCQs)

 3+ year physical damage experience
 BS/BA or equivalent combination of education and experience Adjusters license, and may be required by state
 College Degree
