About the position

The Accounting Analyst position at LG&E and KU Services Company is designed for individuals at various levels of experience, from entry-level to more advanced roles. The position involves performing accounting and financial activities in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements, particularly in the utility sector. Analysts will gather and analyze financial data, prepare journal entries, and ensure compliance with internal controls and reporting standards. Responsibilities
• Gathers, sorts, and analyzes actual and budget financial data from various sources.

• Prepares journal entries and financial calculations that require general knowledge of accounting principles.

• Prepares financial calculations, reports, and analyses for senior management and auditors.
,
• Analyzes expenses and capital expenditures for accuracy and propriety.
,
• Develops a working knowledge of the Corporate Uniform Systems of Accounts and accounting policies unique to the utility industry.
,
• Ensures compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements for accounting and reporting.
,
• Monitors the monthly accounting close and ensures deadlines are maintained.
,
• Serves as lead system administrator for financial reporting systems and assists with report creation.
,
• Prepares financial statement analyses and supporting schedules for regulatory filings.
,
• Consults with various departments regarding property accounting and capitalization issues.

Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance required.
,
• Strong Excel skills and aptitude for accounting information systems.
,
• Working knowledge of accounting principles and their applications to the utility industry.
,
• 3+ years of experience in accounting for Accounting Analyst III position.
,
• CPA certification and/or master's degree preferred for higher-level positions.

Nice-to-haves
• Utility specific accounting experience is preferred.

• Knowledge of and experience with Oracle financial system, EiS, and SQL preferred.

• Current working knowledge of accounting rules and regulations, including US GAAP and IFRS.
