About the position

As a key member of the Client Acquisition Team, the Client Development Executive (CDE) plays a crucial role in assisting DLA Piper in generating new business and contributing to the overall prosperity and growth of the firm. This position is focused on driving new business opportunities through targeted approaches and coordinated cross-selling strategies. The CDE will facilitate, organize, and execute business development strategies in assigned territories, leveraging attorney resources and helping attorneys drive business opportunities. The role requires a strong understanding of the capital markets ecosystem and public company governance, as well as the ability to build and grow relationships at the C-suite, board, and investment banking levels. The CDE will work closely with nationally ranked Capital Markets & Public Company Partners to drive market-facing sales initiatives. This includes pursuing self- and group-generated ideas to connect internally and externally, identifying new opportunities, and expanding key client relationships. The CDE will own core elements of the strategic plan for this rapidly growing practice, which has recently been infused with new energy and leadership. Success metrics will include both quantitative data and qualitative feedback from internal and external stakeholders. In this role, the primary focus will be on prioritizing and driving new strategic clients and relationships with underwriters and issuers, raising the firm's profile with investment banks and public companies, and serving as a trusted advisor to DLA Piper attorneys and clients. The CDE will join an elite team of former company and investment fund executives focused on developing strategic sectors for the firm.

Responsibilities
• Building and cultivating long-term relationships with investment bankers, public company executives, and boards to develop new client opportunities for the Capital Markets & Public Company Advisory practice.

• Collaborating with DLA Piper attorneys to drive new client acquisition and expansion of existing client relationships in both Capital Markets & Public Company Advisory Practice for DLA Piper in the US.

• Managing key client relationships and connecting clients across the DLA Piper platform for cross-collaborative opportunities globally.

• Acting as the point person for the group's Underwriter and Public Company Outreach Campaigns, creating, nurturing, and maintaining the firm's network of relationships with investment banks, investors, C Suite executives, directors, and other corporate decision-makers.

• Serving as an ambassador for DLA Piper at major capital markets and public company programs and events, helping craft and lead such events and sponsorships.

• Actively supporting and attending high-level client events, sponsorships, and educational programs to drive sales pipeline outcomes and increase ROI.

• Creating actionable individual business development plans for a select group of partners.

• Partnering with other market-facing team members on increasing connectivity and cross-collaborating opportunities within the capital markets ecosystem.

Requirements
• 8 years of leadership in financial services.
,
• Undergraduate degree in Business, Sales, Finance, Science or Technology.
,
• Strong understanding of the capital markets ecosystems and market participants.
,
• Understanding of the fundamental tenets of public company governance and reporting.
,
• Foundational knowledge of the legal and professional services sectors within the capital markets and public company ecosystem.
,
• Demonstrated ability to build and grow relationships at the C Suite, board and investment banking level.
,
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
,
• Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and work well in a team of highly performing law firm partners.
,
• Strong judgment and ability to make well-reasoned independent decisions.

Nice-to-haves
• 10 years of leadership in a business development/sales role, preferably from investment banking and/or capital markets/public company ecosystem with exposure to the life sciences and/or technology verticals.
