University Faculty Theatre, Voice and Movement Specialist

Weber State University seeks applicants for the tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Theatre, specializing in Voice, Movement, and Choreography for the Theatre Program in the School of Performing Arts. We seek a candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to undergraduate education and the needs of a diverse student body in the context of a dual-mission public university.

Job Duties

Responsibilities include teaching Voice and Movement for the Actor, Dance for Musical Theatre, Introduction to Acting, general education courses in theatre, and other courses based on special skills or interests. The candidate is responsible for 12 credit hours per semester, consisting of a combination of coursework, and movement coaching or choreography for main-stage productions as needed. The candidate will also contribute to the advancement and growth of the Acting/Directing and Musical Theatre Majors, assist in student recruitment, advise in the selection of the production season, and mentor students.

This position will include normal duties of a full-time faculty member that encompass collaboration and committee membership. The successful candidate will maintain scholarly/creative activity and be committed to the education of a wide range of students.
Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master of Fine Arts Degree in Acting, Theatre, or related field (must be completed by July 1, 2024)
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the university level
  • Professional experience as a movement coach or choreographer
Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in a Nationally certified movement technique (such as Alexander, Laban, Suzuki, or Chekov)
  • Experience choreographing plays and musicals
  • Ability to teach advanced voice and dialect courses

The Theatre Program has approximately 120 majors with concentrations in acting/directing, musical theatre, design/tech/management, theatre education, and theatre generalist. Students frequently present and perform at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and have been recognized at the regional and national level.
