Reading Specialist / Orton Gillingham Tutor

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Orton-Gillingham Reading Tutor to provide individualized instruction to students with reading difficulties, including those with dyslexia. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Orton-Gillingham approach, exceptional teaching skills, and a passion for helping students achieve literacy success. Must have Orton-Gillingham training.
Key Responsibilities: Â Deliver individualized Orton-Gillingham-based reading instruction to students of varying ages and skill levels. Â Assess students' reading skills, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and develop tailored lesson plans. Â Implement multisensory teaching techniques to engage students in phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills. Â Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instruction methods to meet evolving needs. Â Provide a supportive and encouraging learning environment to build students' confidence and motivation. Â Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other professionals to align tutoring sessions with students' overall learning goals. Â Stay current with Orton-Gillingham strategies, research, and best practices. Â Stay updated on best practices in education, including special education techniques for diverse learners.
Qualifications: Â Certification or training in the Orton-Gillingham approach (required). Â BachelorÂs degree in education, special education, or a related field (preferred). Â Previous experience working with students with dyslexia or other reading challenges (preferred). Â Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, families, and educators. Â Patience, empathy, and adaptability to cater to diverse learning styles and needs.
Preferred Skills:
 Familiarity with other structured literacy programs or approaches (e.g., Wilson, Barton).
 Knowledge of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and working with students with special needs.
 Proficiency in virtual teaching platforms, if offering remote instruction.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
