REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Adult Basic Education Programs
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
 BA or MA in ESL, Applied Linguistics, or Bilingual Education, or TESOL
 Excellent communication skills
 Fluency in English language
 Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Preferred
 A minimum of two years relevant work experience (preferably in Adult Basic Education)
 Strong skillset in student testing, data analysis, measurable skills gains, and student advancement
 Experience teaching English Language Learners in Adult Education classes
 Strong ability to establish a culture of learning, respect, and rapport among colleagues and students
POSITION SUMMARY: Support and assist adult learners, ABE teachers, administrators and other staff in the areas of ESL (English as a Second Language), literacy development, and other academic areas. A district literacy specialist supports the district's implementation of the Read Act; delivers support to school-based coaches; assists and supports the implementation of structured literacy, interventions, curriculum delivery, and educator training; assists with the development of personal learning plans; and trains paraprofessionals/support staff to support classroom literacy instruction. Duties include tracking attendance and lead classes as needed.
SALARY: $26.00/hr-$32.00/hr (dependent on qualifications and experience)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
 Oversee record-keeping process including intakes, attendance, and pre- and post-testing
 Complete tutor training and lead small groups under the direction of a licensed teacher
 Reviewing pre- and post- testing data
 Assist in recruitment activities
 Photocopying, creating, and delivering materials as needed
 Support with external relations as assigned
 Other duties as assigned
