Part-Time Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Teacher
Posted 2025-04-06BlazerJobs is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Teacher to join a school district in New Caney, TX. This is a part-time position with 24 hours per week (3 days per week). The ideal candidate will have experience working with students who are visually impaired, including those who are blind or have low vision, and be passionate about teaching essential skills for safe and independent movement and travel.
Position Overview: As a Part-Time O&M Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching orientation and mobility skills to students with visual impairments. Your role will be crucial in helping students gain the confidence and skills they need to navigate their school environment and beyond safely. You will work closely with other educators, therapists, and families to develop individualized mobility plans that address each studentÂs unique needs.
Key Responsibilities:  Provide individual and small group O&M instruction to students with visual impairments, including those who are blind or have low vision.  Teach critical mobility skills, including safe movement techniques, cane skills, travel routes, and environmental awareness.  Work with students to develop spatial awareness and orientation within the school and community setting.  Develop and implement individualized O&M plans based on students' specific needs and goals.  Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other specialists to ensure that O&M goals are integrated into students educational programs.  Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed.  Provide training to teachers and staff on supporting students mobility needs within the classroom and school environment.  Participate in IEP meetings, providing input on mobility goals and progress.  Promote student independence and self-confidence in daily activities.
Position Details:
 Part-Time: 24 hours per week (3 days per week).
 Location: New Caney, TX.
 Caseload: Students with visual impairments (blind or low vision) at various grade levels.
Qualifications: Â BachelorÂs or MasterÂs degree in Orientation & Mobility or a related field. Â Certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) or Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS). Â Experience working with students with visual impairments, including blind or low vision. Â Knowledge of O&M techniques, including cane travel, environmental navigation, and safety awareness. Â Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and staff. Â Compassionate, patient, and committed to fostering student independence.
