Engineering Intern - CURRENT COLLEGE STUDENTS ONLY

About the position

This role will be assigned to one of our engineering departments, Substation/Transmission Engineering, Generation Engineering, or EMS Engineering to assist in various documentation projects and other miscellaneous engineering services. This internship is part-time hours during the school year and full-time hours during school breaks. This position is on-site at either our Benson, AZ office or Apache Generating Station in Cochise, AZ, with no option for remote work.

Responsibilities
• Provide technical support to AEPCO Engineers by preparing technical specifications, drawings and related documents for review by the AEPCO Engineer
,
• Assist AEPCO Engineers with preparation of project cost estimates
,
• Assist AEPCO Engineers with preparation of project schedules
,
• Assist AEPCO Engineers with review of equipment supplier and contractor approval submittals
,
• Assist AEPCO Engineers with monitoring the installation of substation equipment by outside contractors and Cooperative personnel
,
• Assist AEPCO Engineers with preparation of contract and project closeout documentation
,
• Assist AEPCO Engineers with evaluation of equipment and construction bids
,
• Provide as-built documentation of completed installation of substation equipment for review by AEPCO Engineers
,
• Provide technical assistance to Transmission System Operation and Maintenance staff by preparing verbal and/or written technical answers to problems and questions
,
• Assist Planning Engineers with preparing planning studies and fault analyses

Requirements
• Must be enrolled as a student at an accredited college or university and pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Controls Systems Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
,
• Must be within two years of graduation (Junior or Senior status)
,
• Must have a 2.5 GPA or greater
,
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
,
• Self-motivated and able to work on given tasks without constant supervision
,
• Strong computer skills with a functional knowledge of Microsoft Office products
,
• Must be able to work up to 20 hours per week during the school year; and up to 40 hours per week during summer and school breaks depending on the business needs
,
• Must possess, and maintain, a valid driver's license
