About the position

We are seeking an experienced bookkeeper to join our team as a fractional part-time or 1099 contractor. This position is ideal for someone who is already managing other clients or has another job. The primary responsibility will be to assist with the month-end reconciliation of our accounts, while also providing advisory support on general accounting, financial, and sales tax-related issues. A significant focus will be on transactions involving Avalara (AvaTax) and the collection and payment of out-of-state sales tax. Our business model combines e-commerce, traditional sales, and exporting, which requires a nuanced approach to accounting practices, particularly in QuickBooks. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication abilities to respond promptly to the owners' requests via phone, email, and video calls. Ideally, we would like to meet in person at our offices once per quarter to discuss ongoing matters and ensure alignment with our financial goals.

Responsibilities
• Assist with month-end reconciliation of accounts.

• Act as an adviser on general accounting and financial issues.

• Handle sales tax filings and prepayments in states where we hold a seller's permit, including California, Texas, and Florida.

• Interact with state departments of revenue to ensure compliance and prompt filing.

• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, PayPal, and Amazon Pay accounts monthly.

• Record undeposited funds into QuickBooks by matching deposits with bank accounts, considering processor fees.

• Perform account clean-up and re-organization of the chart of accounts as needed.

• Create and file year-end 1099s and send them to contractors.

Requirements
• 5 to 10 years of experience in small business accounting and bookkeeping.

• Degree or Certificate in accounting preferred.

• Significant experience with AvaTax and online selling accounting practices.

• Expert knowledge of QuickBooks.

• Proactive problem solver with a 'Go Getter Attitude'.

• Expert knowledge of account reconciliation and double-entry bookkeeping.
