Product Engineer, Sports Industry
Posted 2025-04-06Do you have a passion for sport? Do you want to grow your career in software development while working in the business of sport? Do you want to lead a team building a ground-breaking product? Are you looking for a company that will invest time in your development, support your professional growth and listen to your ideas?
If the answer is YES, you may have found your dream job, and we may have found our dream hire!
Sports facilities are lying idle during the day all over the world. One reason for this is that people canÂt find and book their local sports facilities online.
At SportsKey, we aim to fix this problem by providing easy to use sports facility management and online booking software-as-a-service that makes it simple for venues to manage and promote their sports facilities, resulting in a dramatic reduction in admin and increased revenue for the venue, and more people playing sport.
Our long-term vision is to help the world play more sport. In the short-term, we are on a... mission to help 20 million people play sport by 2024.
To achieve this, we need to build an amazing team. ThatÂs where you come in.
The Role
WeÂre looking for a mid-to-senior level Ruby on Rails developer with the passion to develop an easy-to-use product that solves real problems for real people. This is primarily an individual contributor role, but thereÂs a path to grow into a leadership role if you aspire to that.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Planning and building improvements, new features and whole new product initiatives for our core Rails application
Actively contributing to product planning from conception, including discovery, UI/UX and technical design decisions
Upholding our high technical standards and processes regarding code quality, testing, performance and security
Participating in code reviews and contributing to our technical decision-making processes
Debugging and resolving technical issues as they arise
Our stack includes Ruby on Rails 7 with Stimulus/Hotwire, PostgreSQL, Bootstrap, Heroku, Cloudflare, AWS S3, Stripe, GitHub, AppSignal & Mailgun. We collaborate using Trello, Slack, GitHub, and Balsamiq Mockups. We have excellent test coverage and confidently deploy to staging and production multiple times a day.
We are a growing company with a strong focus on the US market and have a very exciting and deep product roadmap. WeÂre also a growing team where everyone is encouraged and empowered to work independently and to have a big impact on a successful product.

A full-stack, outcome-focused product mindset with great attention to detail
Eager to learn, grow, and contribute to a high-performing team
Ability to wear multiple hats, manage your time effectively and work independently
A bachelorÂs degree in software engineering, computer science or a related field is a bonus but not required.
A love of Ruby on Rails is a major plus, as is a love for sport!

This is a full-time, permanent, fully remote position. We are accepting applications from anywhere within the EU and UK. Applications from other locations will not be considered, sorry.
No recruiters or agencies, please.
Our interview process
We review your application with a particular emphasis on your cover letter
We follow that with a 30-minute video call with Thilo, our CTO, to chat about your experience and our expectations for the role and answer your questions.
Next is a 90 minute online technical interview to review your core Ruby on Rails knowledge and your proficiency with basic tools
If all goes well, weÂll bring you to Dublin for a final full-day technical exercise, followed by meeting some of our team including our founder and CEO before making you an offer
