The Market Design Analyst will play a key role in understanding the current market design and evaluating the impact of design changes. This position supports the Market Working Group by facilitating market design changes through our clientÂs stakeholder process and conducting market analysis to address market issues.
The role requires close interaction with various working groups to support market design changes and issue resolution. The Market Design Analyst will work closely with departments such as Operations, Legal, Regulatory, Settlements, and Congestion Hedging to ensure that software implementations and processes align with the market design. Additionally, the role will involve working with market participants, vendors, FERC, and other RTOs/ISOs in setting market policy.
The Market Design Analyst will also help facilitate discussion, analyze design changes, and provide market analysis for the Western Energy Imbalance Service (WEIS) Market. This includes supporting the Western Market Executive Council (WMEC) and other working groups within WEIS, while also coordinating market design efforts between the WEIS and our clientÂs Integrated Marketplace.
The successful candidate will manage their work independently, initiate market analysis and changes, develop market metrics, and produce market reports. They will facilitate internal and external discussions to resolve market issues and present market design changes to various stakeholder committees and working groups.
Essential Functions
 Understand our clientÂs market rules and apply this knowledge to key business functions
 Coordinate and communicate with market participants and member companies on market issues
 Facilitate market design changes through the stakeholder process
 Provide technical expertise to committees and working groups
 Support the Market Working Group as necessary
 Assist in FERC filings by providing data, drafting testimony, and preparing filing documents
 Analyze and review market data to identify weaknesses using adhoc analysis
 Research and analyze the design of other RTO/ISO markets
 Document findings in written reports
 Develop and review educational materials related to market design
 Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
Qualifications:
Education
 BachelorÂs degree in economics, mathematics, or a related field
Experience Requirements:  Senior Market Design Analyst: Five years of relevant experience  Lead Market Design Analyst: Ten years of relevant experience
Additional Requirements:  Proficient in organizing and conducting technical and analytical studies  Knowledge of electric market concepts and ability to apply understanding to unique analyses  Ability to support diverse teams and manage complex analysis projects  Strong facilitation skills  Excellent interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills  Competence in using communication and data-handling software such as Microsoft Office, Excel, and Access  Strong business acumen and professional conduct  Ability to function effectively in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities  Strong organizational skills
Senior Level Requirements:  Ability to identify and address strategic issues important to Market Design  Proficient in organizing and conducting complex technical and analytical studies  Skilled at analyzing complex issues and communicating findings to diverse stakeholders
Lead Level Requirements:  Full accountability for decision-making and meeting deadlines  Ability to mentor and train other staff members  Advanced experience with strategic issues and conducting complex studies
Preferred:
 Advanced degree in economics, mathematics, or related field
 Experience in utility operations, RTO operations, or energy trading
 Experience with data manipulation and analysis of large datasets
Work Environment: The role operates in a professional office setting and uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, and copiers.
Physical Demands
 Regularly required to make decisions, interpret data, and solve problems
 Frequent sitting or standing for extended periods and using standard office equipment
 Occasionally lifting and moving up to 10 pounds
 Ability to collaborate with managers and employees at all levels
 Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
Position Type & Expected Hours: This is a full-time position, typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional extended hours as needed.
Travel Requirements: Moderate travel required (10-15%)
