Costing Analyst II

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
 Develop, maintain, streamline, and recommend continuous improvement regarding data collection processes supporting closing activities
 Perform analysis surrounding freight characteristics and cost drivers, and identify areas of improvement for the cost model
 Leverage firm knowledge of core infrastructure, activities, cost-drivers, and profitability to conduct analysis and provide solutions to cost-related business problems
 Develop, maintain, and grow proficiency in SQL in order to identify possible issues with model infrastructure
 Assist with vendor inquiries (e.g., SMC3) in order to ensure cost model accuracy
 Provide Tier II end-user support of cost model. This includes but is not necessarily limited to potential issues with cost model inputs, cost model functionality gaps and lapses due to version updates, etc.
 Analyze cost model calculations and provide insight on areas of improvement
 Support the implementation and development of new business processes affecting active cost models or the Costing department
 Develop self-written SQL queries for general analysis and problem resolution
 Other projects as assigned
 Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
 Provides lower-level analysts with support as necessary.
OTHER DUTIES
 Fulfilling Level I duties occasionally or as needed, which include but are not necessarily limited to:
 Creation of freight density studies
 Cost profile maintenance, support, research, and development
 Provide insight for improving and/or developing cost model set-up and organization
 Provide analytic support to the companyÂs W&I function
 Assist with cross-departmental costing-related support (e.g., Supply Chain)
 May perform duties of TCG/SMC3 model administrator including model maintenance and monthly financial downloads and inputs
 Makes decisions on account costing profile changes
 Follows up on account pricing actions to determine outcome
 Recommends unprofitable accounts that need to be improved
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 BachelorÂs degree in Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, or other quantitative discipline. Equivalent experience may also be considered.
 At least 2-5 years of related work experience preferred.
 Medium-to-high level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required (vlookups, pivot tables, subtotals, etc.).
 Proficiency with SQL Server is a plus.
 Outstanding problem solving and analytical ability.
 Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
 Excellent math skills.
 High attention to detail.
 Ability to compile and analyze data and draw conclusions.
 Cost accounting and/or data analysis experience preferred
 Command of English language to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
 LTL trucking experience and/or knowledge of LTL freight classes and characteristics preferred
 Intellectual curiosity
 Ability and desire to transform ambiguity into actional information.
 Process orientated individual that looks for increased efficiency in repetitive tasks.
 Knowledge of TCG/SMC3 Costing Model beneficial
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
 Primarily a sedentary position working in an office environment; frequent exposure to moderate noise levels including ringing telephones, machinery, and conversations of others.
 Occasional travel required to terminal or other locations within the enterpriseÂs service footprint; walking is frequently required for sustained periods of time during offsite visits
 Potential exposure to adverse weather conditions when interacting with management and employees
 May be exposed to dock operations including freight, forklifts, and other dock equipment. May also be exposed to various trucks, exhaust, fumes, and other related conditions.
 Manual dexterity is regularly required including fingering, grasping, and typing; manual dexterity includes repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers
 Talking and hearing required to communication with and listen to others to share or receive information.
